Smith Makes All the Right Moves in WinUpdated Saturday August 11, 2018 by C.M. Smithe.
Chris Smith woke fully rested the morning of July 23rd but quickly this day would not be like any other day. Smith decided to change his morning routine of skipping breakfast in favour of a hearty, fibrous bowl of steel cut oats. Further, Smith delayed his morning coffee until after he ate. Smith's decision payed immediate dividends as he noted his subtle morning indigestion was absent and satisfying bowel movement had him feeling years younger.
Smith made a point to pack his baseball equipment in his car after breakfast and decided to set out to the ballpark ten minutes earlier than normal. Smith reflected on his decision to leave earlier, as he drove he observed that traffic appeared less congested than normal passing by busy highway exits points with ease.
While watching his pitchers warm up, Smith was deciding whether to start Arthurs or Valach. By this time Smith had become aware that this day was different, that his intuition and decision making were not yet wrong. Smith decided to start Arthurs over relief starter Valach. Smith then decided to shuffle his lineup opting to start several recently acquired over other tenured players.
Smith's lineup shuffle lead to immediate success as the Mudcats scored a run in the each of the first two innings thanks to Brady's 2 rbi performance batting in the 5 spot. The Razorbacks rallied to in the bottom half of the second and again in the 4th to take a 4-2 lead.
In the top of the 5th, Smith strategically used his time out to deliver a motivational speech to his team and take the Razorbacks starting pitcher out of his rhythm. The Mudcats rallied to score 5 runs to take a 7-4 lead. The Razorbacks scored one run in the bottom of the 5th but that's as close as they would get.
In total, the Mudcats combined for 8 rbis en route to an official 7-5 victory.
